Love Your Heart: Why Taking Action is More Important Than Ever

This coming Friday, September 29th marks World Heart Day. Each year this global awareness campaign highlights the importance of taking care of your overall cardiovascular health. It’s aim is to educate individuals across the world about how to identify and control the risk factors that lead to cardiovascular disease (CVD).

CVD is one of the biggest health challenges and killers that affects millions of people each year, specifically that of heart attacks and strokes. Some of the factors that lead to this condition are predisposed but the majority are caused by leading an unhealthy lifestyle.

One of the tell-tale signs is that of hypertension which is caused by high blood pressure. High blood pressure generally has no symptoms, however, if left untreated, it can lead to a heart attack. As we grow older, our blood pressure naturally increases. Other factors such as being overweight and eating too much salt can also affect blood pressure. For this reason, it is extremely important to regularly get your blood pressure checked and to take an active part in looking after your cardiovascular health.

Recently within the pharmacy we installed a new 24 hour blood pressure machine. Call into us this Friday and get your blood pressure checked as part of World Heart Day.
