Increasing Awareness for HPV

The HSE are currently highlighting the importance of raising awareness of the Human Papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) to ensure that girls of secondary school age are protected and immunised against Human Papillomavirus.

Human Papillomavirus is a virus that causes cervical and other cancers among women and is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases worldwide. Research shows that Ireland has one of the highest rates of cervial cancer in Europe. For this reason, the HSE are urging parents to ensure that their daughters avail of the free HPV vaccine which is currently being implemented as part of the immunisation programme by the HSE within secondary schools across the country.

The vaccine is safe and effective and helps to protect women from 7 out of 10 cervical cancers which can be caused by HPV.

Here at Conefrey’s Pharmacy, we understand the importance of protecting your children’s health. If your daughter is of secondary school age or will be entering secondary school in the coming years and you would like more information regarding the HPV vaccine, please call in store and talk to one of our staff.
