As the weather gets colder and the winter months approach, our immune systems are more susceptible to picking up cold and flu viruses. In order to prevent this, each year towards the end of September pharmacies around the country begin to provide flu vaccinations to the public.
The flu is a respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. Symptoms include coughing, high fever, sore throat, fatigue, body aches and pains. Here at Conefreys pharmacy, we would advise customers who fall into the following categories to get vaccinated against the flu this winter:
- Children and adults with weakened immune systems
- Women who are pregnant
- Individuals who suffer with respiratory problems
- Healthcare workers who would have direct contact with patients
- Anyone who are over the age of 65
The Irish Pharmacy Union have recently launched a radio and video campaign in order to raise awareness to the public of the availability of the flu vaccine from local pharmacies across the country. You can watch their video campaign here.
Conefrey’s Pharmacy are now offering flu vaccinations to all customers in store. If you would like to book yourself for an appointment to get vaccinated against the flu this winter, call in store or book online.
